NextEra Energy, others reach gas-powered generation funding milestone

NextEra Energy has secured agreements with the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Government of Japan to fund up to 10 GW of natural gas-powered generation projects in Texas and Pennsylvania. This initiative, part of Japan's $550 billion investment commitment from a March 2026 U.S.-Japan trade agreement, aims to provide reliable power infrastructure, lower energy prices, and create thousands of jobs. NextEra Energy plans to have initial resources online by late 2028 and complete the projects by 2032, leveraging its "bring your own generation" hub strategy to support critical digital infrastructure growth.
