STARTING Oct. 30, eligible members of the Social Security System (SSS) who are covered by the expanded Uplift assistance program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will receive up to P8,000 in financial aid. SSS President and CEO Victor Alfonso Limlingan said the upcoming payout will benefit qualified SSS members whose monthly salary credit (MSC) does not exceed P10,000. Uplift, or Unified Package for Livelihoods, Industry, Food and Transport, assistance would be disbursed in four tranches of P2,000 each, credited directly to beneficiaries’ registered SSS disbursement accounts, Limlingan said. Working in coordination with the SSS, the DSWD extended the program to extend additional assistance to qualified members with an MSC not exceeding P10,000, supplementing the aid previously available to members with an MSC of up to P20,000. The SSS emphasized, however, that an MSC not exceeding P10,000 does not automatically qualify a member for Uplift assistance. To be eligible, members must also have paid at least one SSS contribution in 2025 or 2026 and be listed in the Philippine Statistics Authority’s 2024 Community-Based Monitoring System database. In addition, they must have enrolled their disbursement accounts through the SSS Disbursement Account Enrollment Module within the prescribed period. Members are then encouraged to check their My.SSS accounts for official notifications regarding their eligibility for Uplift assistance. In the meantime, qualified SSS members with an MSC of P20,000 are set to receive the third and fourth tranches of Uplift assistance, totaling P4,000, on Nov. 6. This follows the DSWD’s successful release of the first and second tranches earlier this year, according to the state pension fund. It said that eligible beneficiaries who have not yet received any Uplift assistance will receive the full P8,000 covering all four tranches. “Those who have already received the first two tranches totaling P4,000 will receive an additional P4,000 for the third and fourth tranches,” the SSS chief executive said. ARLIE CALALO Both amounts will be credited simultaneously to beneficiaries’ registered SSS disbursement accounts, he added.

KABATAAN Party-list Rep. Renee Co, with Gabriela Rep. Sarah Jane Elago and ACT Teachers Rep. Antonio Tinio, has filed House Resolution 1565, calling for an inquiry into the sudden stoppage of the mandatory online posting of Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Registration Seal Badges by online sellers. ”Suddenly reversing course? The BIR implemented this policy without prior consultation or proper consideration for every Filipino engaged in online work. It is even more concerning that, after more than 50,000 registrations, the BIR suddenly withdrew it,” Co said. The BIR suspended the requirement on Oct. 26, days before the Oct. 31 compliance deadline, citing concerns over data privacy and technical difficulties. The badge was introduced as an alternative to posting the full BIR Certificate of Registration on websites, online stores and social media business pages. The requirement drew flak because of the risk of personal information being accessed through its QR code. This has prompted the National Privacy Commission to ask the BIR to explain its handling of personal data. ”A reversal is not enough; there must still be an investigation,” Co said.

MANILA, Philippines — Pre-shaded ballots were observed in three precincts outside the high-profile incident in Maluso, Basilan, during the first parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), an election watchdog said on Wednesday. The findings suggest that the ballot irregularities were not confined to Maluso, where more than 16,000 ballots were
