The F-35 fighter jet program's costs have risen sharply for all three variants. The F-35A and F-35B variants saw over an eleven percent price increase. The carrier-capable F-35C variant experienced an eight and a half percent rise. The program's modernization efforts and rising sustainment costs have driven up its total acquisition bill. This program remains the Pentagon's most expensive weapons system ever built.
