EU vs Trump Over Greenland: Von der Leyen Arrives With Shock Security Plan

Europe is placing money, political support and its own Arctic strategy behind Greenland as Donald Trump continues pressing for greater American control over the strategically vital territory. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen arrived in Nuuk for talks with the leaders of Greenland, Denmark and the Faroe Islands. Brussels is expected to announce approximately €200 million in additional funding for critical minerals, renewable energy, undersea cables, satellite links and data infrastructure. Washington already operates its northernmost military installation in Greenland and views the island as essential to American security. Greenland supports security cooperation—but insists that its sovereignty and future cannot be purchased, annexed or negotiated without its people.
