Nokuthula Khanyile Sun, 11/01/2026 - 19:40 PRETORIA - ANC Tshwane mayoral candidate nominee Tlangi Mogale has defended the party's record in the metro, claiming the ANC has spent the past 24 months reversing years of neglect and prioritising residents' needs. Speaking during a We The Nation Elections 2026 debate, Mogale said the party had demonstrated its commitment to residents through improved service delivery, infrastructure development and efforts to stabilise the City of Tshwane's finances. She argued that townships, which she said had been neglected for years while service delivery focused on affluent areas, were now receiving greater attention under the current administration. Addressing the persistent water challenges in Hammanskraal, Mogale said the City had strengthened its relationship with national government to help deliver projects that were beyond its financial capacity. She cited the completion of the Klipdrift package plant as one of the developments resulting from these interventions. “Most importantly, we have undone the injustices that the people of Tshwane were subjected to in the last eight years. Townships were neglected and service delivery only focused in affluent areas,” she said. Mogale also defended the ANC's handling of the municipality's finances, saying the City was servicing its Eskom debt and maintaining its current account. She said the administration inherited financial challenges but managed to stabilise the municipality's finances and unlock funding for capital expenditure projects after taking office approximately a year ago. “Currently, Tshwane is a construction site because of the ANC. I say the ANC because, in as much as we are in a coalition, we enjoy majority seats in the infrastructure structure,” she said. Tshwane is currently governed by a 10-party coalition comprising the ANC, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and seven smaller parties.
