The Master of Economics (MEcon) is an integrated four-year programme that brings together undergraduate breadth and postgraduate depth, leading to a single award. Through research-led teaching complemented by practical applications, it develops the specialist expertise and technical fluency expected of modern economists, preparing graduates for roles across government, central banking, policy analysis, industry, finance, consultancy, and academia. The four-year route offers a coherent pathway that combines research-led teaching with practical application. Overall, the programme is designed to enhance employability through rigorous training in the application of modern economic theory, econometrics, data science and programming, together with structured opportunities to communicate findings to specialist and non-specialist audiences. Crucially, the programme provides graduate-level training in state-of-the-art methods and techniques, culminating in a research project that applies academic knowledge to real world questions. Years 1-2: Build a strong foundation in economic theory, mathematics, and data analysis. Year 3: Advance your skills and specialise through optional modules such as labour economics, environmental economics, international economics, and economic history. Year 4: Apply these skills at a postgraduate level to real-world and policy-focused problems, to further enhance your employability skills.
