Amazon has agreed to pay a $2.25 million civil penalty and revise its process for handling identity theft record requests, following allegations that it violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The federal government accused Amazon of failing to provide victims with transaction records related to fraudulent use of their identification within the required 30-day timeframe. Under the new order, Amazon must supply these records free of charge within 30 days, provided the victim's identity and claim are verified, and post a notice on its website explaining how to request them.
